Hey Guys,
We are already on the second half of the semester!! :D. Hope this week is not too bad, here are a couple of announcements for this week. It's going to be pretty full as in a nutshell we have: Resume Workshop (Wednesday), General Meeting (Thursday), Noche de Ciencias (Thursday), Homecoming tailgate!! (Saturday).   

1. GENERAL MEETING:

When? This Thursday October 25th
What time? 11:00AM 
Where? DM Smith 105
Food will be provided. 
They also hire international students. 

2. SEND YOUR RESUME ASAP: 
Companies have been asking SHPE for the resumes of our members, so we are currently assembling our resume book for this academic year.
If you have a resume, please send it to Victor de la Guardia at vdelaguardia3@gatech.edu and he will add your resume to our resume book.
When sending your resume, please name the subject of the email as "RESUME" or "RESUME BOOK".
3. COMMUNITY SERVICE:
1. Noche de Ciencias: 
Night of activities and workshops with hispanics from middle and high school, and with their parents to get them to go to college. Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. 
When?  Thursday October 25th
Time? meet at Student Center Parking Lot at 3:00 pm.  3:30 pm (start setup), activity from 4:30 pm  to 7:30pm

2. Team BUZZ: 
I just wanted to let everyone know about a community service opportunity. Team Buzz is happening on Saturday November 3. I have created a group for us so that those interested can sign up. We are assigned to the Big Trees Forest Preserve project; it really is a great opportunity to help out in the Atlanta area.

3. Tutoring to hispanics middle and high school kids: 
What? Middle school and high school students are brought to the GT campus for tutoring Where? Georgia Tech CULC ROOM 325 When? Every Saturday beginning September 29th from 12pm-2pm

4. RESUME WORKSHOP: 
Get ready for the National Conference and Mock Interviews (coming November)! Take advantage of the opportunity of having your resume revised by members of our chapter that have experience and can give you honest tips on how to improve your resume.

6. FOR THOSE GRADUATING: 
SHPE Stoles
Are you graduating this semester? Don't forget to order your SHPE stole. I have attached the Stole Order Form and Affidavit that you need to fill out in order to get your stole. The order form must be received by SHPE National at least 60 days prior to your graduation day so that you may receive your stole in time. Don't delay, order your SHPE stole today!

8. SUB-REGION RETREAT: 
Greetings everyone,
For those who don't know me, my name is Clemente Quinones, I am a 4th year Civil Engineering student at Georgia Tech, and the SHPE Vice-Regional Student Representative for Georgia.
I would like to cordially invite you to our Sub-Regional Retreat on Nov. 10th that will be hosted by the SHPE Chapter at Southern Polytechnic State University (SPSU) in Marietta, GA.
By attending you will gain insight of the organization at a Regional and National level, experience interactive workshops on group dynamics, team building, goal setting, strategic planning, project management, and more!
It's a great opportunity to  network with SHPE leaders and members to share ideas and best practices before the conference!

What? A day of cool engineering activities and workshop to get hispanic kids and their parents interested in college!
When? This Saturday October 13th from 9:00 am to 1:00pm

Joint event with HSF, as part of SHPE please sign up all day (preferably) and for high school engineering activity, Highs School workshop presenter, Logistics and/or Student Panel. Is a great opportunity to get out there and help the community, and a great leadership event. We really need your help if you are available because is weekend of Fall break and a lot of our members are not going to be here.

Capital One case competition: 
Who can participate? Freshmen, Sophomore and Juniors. 
Deadline? Friday October 19th
Each member of the winning team will receive 1,000$.

They are looking for someone who has a strong passion for operations, data analysis, optimization, and process improvement. This position is located at the Mt. View, CA Headquarters. I strongly believe this is a great opportunity to open the doors for SHPE's Region 7 at Google.

8.  LUNCH WITH A LEADER: 

This year the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) Atlanta Professional Chapter will be partnering with the Sandy Springs Education Force (SSEF) to coordinate the community mentors for the LWL program.

We are excited to participate in the program as fellow mentors and we hope to see some familiar faces.  I have attached the program outlines and the sign-up sheet.
